Please check in with me simplex on Thursday night as we try to connect with stations preceding a meeting about emergency management at my church. I will be setting up a mobile battery powered station at the church house (which is just east from Lebanon High School) about 6:00 pm. From 6:10 to 6:30 pm I am looking for any contact that can reach us for a signal and distance check. The notes from my observations will help us determine where and who we can reach in a real emergency. At 6:30 we will check in with those of the church group that are coming to the meeting via driving or walking, using either their hand helds or mobile radio.

Hey thanks to you all for your participation in advance. I hope we can do this again in the near future as well. I will probably grade from 0-10 and would appreciate a signal report about our station. It will be quick so please have your exact location ready to give.

Steve,

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but are you planning on operating FM simplex at 146.580 MHz?

Also, will you be collecting any information about radio and antenna combinations, or power output? A "5" from Albany is nice - but if the "5" was from a 100 watt station with a 5 element Yagi antenna pointed your way, it might not give a very good idea of what to expect from someone with a 5 watt handheld with a rubber duckie antenna sitting in their house in Albany - who might not even rate a "1" on your scale.

Just something to think about! Thanks for coordinating this - I always enjoy playing with the simplex side of VHF/UHF! Getting/building high gain directional antennas for VHF/UHF is MUCH easier than the HF antennas. :^)

Yes I will also ask for power and antenna specifications. Thanks for the input as it makes good sense. Once again though I will have to be quick about it. Next time I do this I will try to schedule more time.

Looking forward to it! I don't get a chance to mess around on 2-meter simplex much. I'll be checking in from Monmouth with a line-of-sight distance of about 27 miles.

(Edit: I may be a bit late to checking in; I carpooled so I am at the whim of my co-workers as to when we leave work.)

Sorry about the situation last night. We got it setup and found a problem with the antenna connection but I heard a lot of you anyway with my handheld. Appreciate having the opportunity to review with you after the exercise on the 513, Let's do it again soon.
